Primitive Reflexes

Have you ever wondered why some kids — or even adults — struggle with focus, anxiety, clumsiness, or learning challenges, even after early childhood?
The answer might be hidden deep in the body's natural survival system: primitive reflexes.

What are Primitive Reflexes?

Primitive reflexes are automatic, instinctive movements that babies are born with.
They help newborns survive, feed, bond, and eventually develop the motor skills needed for crawling, walking, speaking, and learning.

Normally, these reflexes "integrate" — or fade away — as the brain and nervous system mature in the first few years of life.
When everything develops smoothly, children move forward with ease into more complex skills like reading, writing, balancing, and emotional regulation.

How can Primitive Reflexes become inhibited again?

Even if a child initially integrates their reflexes correctly, stress, trauma, injury, illness, or emotional overwhelm later in life can cause reflexes to reactivate or become stuck again. Think of it like old software running in the background — slowing down focus, movement, behaviour, and emotional control.

Signs of unintegrated reflexes might include:

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Poor posture or coordination

  • Anxiety or emotional reactivity

  • Bedwetting or toileting challenges

  • Difficulty sitting still or focusing at school

  • Low frustration tolerance

In teens and adults, it can even show up as:

  • Anxiety

  • Difficulty organising thoughts

  • Sensory overwhelm

  • Emotional outbursts

  • Overeating

How Kinesiology can support Reflex Integration

At Kin Balance, we use Kinesiology and various energy healing techniques to gently assess and support the nervous system.
Through gentle muscle monitoring, movement patterns, and energy balancing techniques, we can identify reflexes that may be affecting behaviour, emotions, or learning.

A kinesiology session may include:

  • Gentle balancing movements

  • Specific brain integration activities

  • Energy rebalancing techniques

  • Calming breathing or regulation tools

Rather than "forcing" anything, Kinesiology works with the body’s wisdom … gently reminding it how to complete unfinished reflex patterns and restore ease, calmness, and coordination.

A calm Nervous System is always the aim

When primitive reflexes are supported and integrated, children and teens can experience:

  • Improved concentration

  • Greater emotional regulation

  • Stronger coordination

  • Easier learning

  • A deeper sense of calm and confidence

At Kin Balance, our goal is to reconnect you, or your child , to your natural rhythm, resilience, and strength.
Your body already knows how to heal — sometimes it just needs a little extra support. 🌟
